It all started with one child. To make them smile.

Letters from…

There was one small child, who thought the world seemed odd and peculiar. She didn’t understand. No matter how hard she tried, the world stayed confusing. People mistook her actions, and her words. She felt alone. Isolated. Not like the others.

One day a surprising thing happened. A letter arrived. Not just an ordinary letter, but one from a fairy. Oh how wonderful. The fairy, who happened to be of similar age, had questions about life too. She saw the oddities and randomness, just like the small child did.

Through writing back and forth, the small child and the fairy discussed what they saw and did each day. Even though they were from different worlds, there were many similarities. Similar emotions. Similar fears. Similar things that brought happiness. Things started to make more sense.

In the excitement of having such an understanding friend, the small child started discussing her life and emotions with the people around her. The small child had finally found her words. Those around her happily listened to the things she did not understand. They allowed her to voice them, without fear of judgement or belittlement. She felt safe. Less alone.

Thus the letters began. Several more children in the community started receiving letters too. The parents were grateful. Time passed, the letters were tucked away as mementoes of childhood. As the children grew into young adults, they reflected on the letters and commented how each fairy had assisted them in someway.

If only every child could have such a positive experience. The ‘Letters from’ series of books are actually drafted from the original letters. It is hoped that their positive outlook can assist another child who feels alone or scared. If nothing else, I hope the letters entertain a child and makes them smile.

The letters encourage interaction through thought and discussion with the reader. Hopefully as a carer of a child, you can enjoy the experience too.
